Rabbit Moonlight marks my first-ever cover design and part of an ongoing Chinese zodiac cover series, with each year celebrating its corresponding animal.

The early sketches drew from my childhood admiration for Sailor Moon, incorporating rabbit, moon, and rose imagery. As the design developed, it transformed into a scene of quiet encouragement: rabbits perched on clouds as one courageous rabbit jumps across the moon.

This moment captures the feeling of standing at the edge of change—where many watch, and one chooses to leap. The phrase on the back cover, “Take the leap,” anchors the illustration as both a visual story and a gentle call to action.

DESIGN PROCESS

Initial concept sketch using a moon rabbit theme often found in Asian folklore.

The illustration was expanded to work as a full wraparound cover design. Negative space is blocked out and floral elements were removed to make the design a little more gender-neutral.

Lineart and details.

Final illustration with vectored lines.

Final design debossed in metallic pearl gold faux leather.
